Working Together

Working Together

A simple, thoughtful process for working with a developmental editor and story coach — designed to keep the work clear, supportive, and focused on your story.

Payment plans are available for larger services if you’d prefer to split the cost.

Reach Out

The first step is simply reaching out through the contact form for the service you’re interested in.

You’re very welcome to share where you are in your writing process, what you’re working on, and what kind of support might be helpful right now. You don’t need to be an expert, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Feeling uncertain at this stage is completely normal. Most writers do.

We Check Fit

I personally read every inquiry that comes in.

If it feels like I’m a good fit for your project, I’ll walk you through what the next steps might look like. If I don’t think I’m the right person for the kind of support you need, I’ll be honest about that and, when possible, point you toward someone who may be a better fit.

This step matters to me. The goal is for the work to feel supportive, respectful, and genuinely useful for both of us.

Booking & Scheduling

If we decide to move forward, I’ll send you a short agreement outlining the scope of the work and what you can expect to receive. You’ll also receive an invoice to secure your place in my schedule.

For Developmental Editing and Manuscript Feedback projects, a non-refundable deposit confirms the booking and counts as the first payment if you’re using a payment plan. Story Outline Feedback is paid in full upfront, while Story Coaching is billed monthly.

Once everything is confirmed, your project is officially scheduled.

The Work

Once everything is in place, I begin the work within the timeframe we’ve agreed on. For Developmental Editing and Manuscript Feedback, this involves careful reading, analysis, and written feedback. For Story Coaching, it means structured written check-ins based on the rhythm we’ve chosen together.

Each project is approached thoughtfully, giving the story the attention it needs without rushing the process.

Delivery

When everything is ready, and the remaining balance has been settled, you’ll receive the agreed deliverables in a clear and organised format.

For developmental services, this typically includes written feedback and notes. Some services also include a short follow-up window where you can ask clarification questions. If that applies, it will always be clearly outlined when you book.

Support & Next Steps

Depending on the service, you may have the option to ask follow-up questions or talk through parts of the feedback.

If it feels helpful, I may suggest what kind of support could come next. That might look like taking time to revise, continuing with Story Coaching, or simply moving forward on your own.

There’s never any pressure to book anything further.

What You Can Expect From Me

When you work with me, the goal isn’t to reshape your story into something else. It’s to help you see your own story more clearly. The feedback I offer is always grounded in care for the work and respect for the writer behind it.

Thoughtful

I take time to understand what your story is trying to do before suggesting changes. Feedback is shaped by the intention of the story itself, not just general craft advice.

Honest

If something isn’t working yet, I’ll say so clearly and respectfully. Honest feedback can sometimes feel uncomfortable, but it’s also what allows a story to grow.

Specific

Rather than vague comments, I focus on clear, concrete observations about structure, character development, pacing, and emotional clarity, so you know what to look at during revision.

Respectful of Your Voice

The story always belongs to you. My role is to help strengthen what’s already there, not reshape it in my own style.

Focused on Clarity and Direction

By the end of the process, my hope is that you have a clearer sense of what’s working in your manuscript, what may need attention, and where your next steps might be.

Payment Plans

I know investing in your story can feel like a big step. Especially when you’re trying to balance it with everything else.

If you’re feeling unsure about the cost, that’s completely okay. Payment plans are there so you don’t have to figure it all out at once, and so you can move forward in a way that feels manageable for you.

How it works

  • A 30% deposit secures your place in my schedule
  • That deposit counts as your first payment
  • The rest can be split into smaller monthly payments (up to 4 payments in total)
  • Payments are made monthly after the deposit
  • I can begin the work once the deposit is in place

Delivery & timing

  • Your project is completed within the agreed timeframe
  • Final feedback or your edited manuscript is delivered once all payments are completed

A few small things to be aware of

  • Payment plans are available for services over $300
  • Story Coaching isn’t included, as it reserves ongoing time in my schedule
  • If a payment is missed, things are simply paused until you’re ready to continue

If you’re interested in working together but not sure what’s realistic for you right now, you’re always welcome to say that when you reach out. We can figure something out together that feels doable.

Sample Edits

For developmental editing projects, I offer a short Sample Edit & Feedback of up to 3,000 words.

Finding the right editor can be a vulnerable process. It’s also a financial investment, and I know how difficult it can be to decide whether someone’s approach will actually work for you and your story.

This gives both of us a chance to see whether the fit feels right before committing to a larger project.

Because this is based on a short extract, the feedback is focused on what’s visible on the page in those opening sections—clarity, flow, character, and how the story is coming across to a reader. It won’t reflect the full depth of a developmental edit or the big-picture patterns across your manuscript, but it will give you a clear sense of how I read and the kinds of questions and observations I tend to make.

If the approach feels supportive and useful, we can talk about next steps. And if it doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s completely okay too.

I review every inquiry carefully. If I don’t believe I can genuinely help your manuscript, I’ll say so. I won’t recommend a service that isn’t right for your project.

A Few Helpful Things to Know

  • I take on a limited number of clients at a time so the work can stay thoughtful, present, and sustainable.
  • If you’re unsure which service might be the best fit, you’re always welcome to say so when you reach out.

Quick FAQ

What genres do you work with?

I work mostly with romance-driven manuscripts, especially contemporary and fantasy romance. I’m also happy to look at closely related subgenres where the relationship and emotional arc sit at the centre of the story. If you’re unsure whether your project fits, you’re very welcome to reach out and we can take a look together.

What stage should my manuscript be at?

Developmental Editing or Manuscript Feedback tends to work best for completed drafts or strong partial drafts, where the story, characters, and romantic arc are already on the page but may need more clarity, structure, or direction. If you’re still outlining or in the earlier stages of drafting, my Story Outline Feedback or Story Coaching may be a better fit. And if you’re not quite sure, you’re always welcome to reach out and we can figure that out together.

How does the process work after I get in touch?

Once you submit the contact form, I’ll take a look at your project details and we’ll usually have a short email conversation to make sure the fit feels right and to talk through scope, timing, and pricing. If we decide to move forward, I’ll send an invoice and outline the next steps clearly before we begin.

How do you deliver feedback?

You’ll receive in-line comments on your manuscript (Word document), and a detailed editorial letter—usually around 5–15 pages—shaped around your story and what it needs. My focus is on clarity, emotional impact, and helping you understand what’s happening in the story, not just pointing things out.

Who do you currently work with?

I work with writers internationally. Many of my clients are based in the UK and the US, but you’re very welcome to reach out no matter where you’re based.

Ready when you are.
